A New Conservative Political Party

The 2008 Presidential Election:
Never in my life have I seen a presidential election with two of the most unqualified candidates that our current political parities could muster. How this happened could take volumes to explain but for now it is what it is. The two questions I have are: How we as a people could allow this to happen? And what do we do about it now?

The first question is one I am not sure how to answer. I am afraid some of it is due the people’s lack of understanding of the system, and the complacency of the people to feelings of helplessness. We have put to much faith in our current political system and the two parties that dominate that system. We have allowed them to pick our candidates and complain when they are not who we want. WE must never forget that WE are the power that runs this country and WE can and must have a say on who will lead us.

For the first time in my life it truly will be a case picking the lesser of two evils in November. If you have not surmised by now I am a conservative. I have been a registered republican my whole life and have only voted for a democrat once. As many conservatives I feel the Republican Party has left me. For years it was easy for me to see the differences between Democrat and Republican; Liberal and Conservative; Larger Government and Small Government. As I look at it now the Democrats are no longer liberals but socialist and the republicans are no longer conservative but liberals. That leaves us conservatives without a party.

This brings me to the second question: What do we do about it now? Some say we need a third party. Others say that will only give Obama the win. I am afraid they are both right. For some time I have pondered on this dilemma. I have listened to the conservative voices on the radio and in print. For better or worse McCain must win the presidency. Obama is a pure socialist and would do nothing to help this nation. McCain may have some socialist tendencies but he is a mix between a conservative and liberal. As strange as that is it trumps a socialist every time. For now conservatives must bite the bullet and vote for McCain.

The Third Party:
Those who say a third party would not work must not remember their history. It was a third party that rose to power in 1856 and gave us our first Republican President in 1860, Abraham Lincoln. What made it work then? What will make it work now? There were a lot of “moderates” and “appeasers” in both the Democrat and Whig parties. They were trying to keep a nation together without fixing the problem. It sounds a lot like a bunch of guys in Washington today. There were enough determined strong willed and good people who were willing to make the tough decisions and do what was best for the nation at all cost, even a Civil War. Those people formed the Republican Party. They gave slaves their freedom, and the right to vote. They gave women the right to vote. They did more good for this country from 1860 to 1930 than any other party. They gave the people the power to grow and build wealth. Not by government control but by allowing individual freedoms.

Conservatism is alive and well in this nation, contrary to popular believe. It needs a political party and the current Republican Party does not seem to want us. If I am right, and there are a large number of conservative minded people in this nation then now is the time to act. Rush Limbaugh has become the main voice of Conservatism in this country. He is doing a great job. I am not saying he should run for political office, but he has shown his words can move mountains. He is right that a third party candidate would only give Obama the White House. But the Republicans must be put on notice. Just as his “Operation Chaos” had an impact on the Democrat Primaries, His support of a new “Conservative Party” can have a greater impact on the Republican Party and this nation.

This time around the Conservative Party will support McCain. Not because we like him but because we don’t want Obama. We can spend the next four years converting congressmen and senators to change parties. Start showing we have an active voice in the system. When we feel we can compete with Democrats we can run our own candidate. Until then we use our power with a greater grass root effort to affect the Republican Party platform. The Republican Party must either come back to its roots or become as the Whig party did 1856.

It is time for “WE THE PEOPLE” to say enough. It is time to restore order to our form of government and return to the values that made this nation the greatest on earth. The sooner we act the less painful it will be. If we remain complacent then the day of change may have to come as it did in 1776, with bloodshed. I pray for this nation, its constitution and its people. May we not ever forget the sacrifice of our founding fathers and may we have the courage to do as they did and fight injustice. May “WE THE PEOPLE” adapt a slogan from 1776 – “Don’t Tread on Me”. Let us take our nation back. Let freedoms, not socialism, rein.
